The benefits of glycemic control are well-established in diabetes care and achieving better glucose control is the gauge that new technologies must reach to become the standard of care in the space. Advances in continuous glucose monitoring (or “CGM”) technology have enabled more in-depth and real-time tracking of a patient’s glucose levels.

Some of the most convincing data has been presented from two large randomized controlled trials demonstrating that CGM proved effective for people with diabetes in improving glycemic control, reducing HbA1C levels, and also improving time in healthy glucose ranges for patients—both of which should ultimately improve long-term clinical outcomes. Both studies showed that with the use of CGM, patients were able to lower HbA1c levels and increase time spent in recommended glucose ranges over the control group conducting routine fingersticks.
